The donation included food and health care supplies.

Tegucigalpa, June 23, 2020.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) delivered a donation of US$3,000 to the Genesis project enabling the purchase of 150 food rations for families in the Central District, 500 masks for youth outreach centers and 200 electronic top-ups for EDUCATEH participants to be used during the COVID-19 crisis.

Along these lines and within the framework of the Bank's Environmental and Social Policy's component of Corporate Environmental and Social Responsibility, CABEI promotes the participation and empowerment of communities and citizens for the development of social investment projects, prioritizing such issues as healthcare, education, environment and community development.

The GENESIS Project has a presence in the 68 communities most affected by violence at a national level. Likewise, these communities are also the poorest and most vulnerable to all kinds of disasters and diseases. To that end, a vital food and biosecurity input management plan was prepared for the livelihood of families residing in such communities.

Coordinators and volunteers at Youth Outreach Centers identified the families benefiting from the donation of food, taking into account such factors as poverty conditions, single mothers, the elderly and number of family members. In addition, previous community efforts were identified, seeking to benefit the largest number of families in each community with local efforts, as well as through the GENESIS Project. A distribution of 30 food bags with an approximate weight of 20 pounds each was determined.

The masks were distributed among the 15 Youth Outreach Center coordinators, who have used these biosafety tools to continue carrying out humanitarian aid work and identifying beneficiaries. Electronic top-ups were used to connect EDUCATEH beneficiaries nationwide with their volunteer teachers and to participate in the virtual poetry, spelling, and public speaking olympics.

Since the start of the pandemic, CABEI has joined the social commitment making financing available to the region to support its member countries and help the most vulnerable people, providing the region with a donation of COVID-19 screening tests and carrying out  other types of efforts to support Central Banks and the Financial System, in addition to initiatives for MSMEs, which are the main generator of employment in the region.
