Cucunatí, Darién gain access to safe drinking water with CABEI support
Panama City, Panama, November 27, 2024.- More than 1,000 inhabitants of the community of Cucunatí, in Darién, Panama, now have access to water suitable for human consumption, thanks to support from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). This improvement was achieved through the implementation of the “Rainwater Harvesting, Storage and Filtration Project” at the Cucunatí General Basic Center.
The project consisted of the installation of a comprehensive rainwater fundraising, channeling, purification and pumping system, capable of providing more than 220,000 liters of water annually. This progress seeks to alleviate problems of access to water, particularly during the dry season, and improve the quality of life of the population by directly impacting areas such as health, nutrition and education.
With this system, the 123 students and 14 teachers of the school now have clean and safe water for essential activities such as drinking, cooking and hand washing. C.E.B.G Cucunatí's Deputy Director, María Aguilar, expressed with emotion: “I have worked here for 40 years, and this represents a huge achievement that will change the lives of everyone in our community”.
This project not only transforms the lives of the Cucunatí community by guaranteeing a sustainable solution to a fundamental need, but also reaffirms CABEI's purpose of improving the quality of life of all people in the region. By addressing key challenges such as access to safe water for human consumption, the multilateral continues to demonstrate its commitment to concrete solutions that generate well-being and opportunities for present and future generations.
