CABEI delegation visits the province of Chaco in Argentina to learn about Social Investment in Citizen Security initiatives

Buenos Aires, February 4, 2022.- Technical teams from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Argentine Strategic Affairs Secretariat met with the governor of the province of Chaco, Jorge Capitanich, to learn about the citizen security service in northwestern Argentina.

The development of a program that will strengthen the public security service, optimize the infrastructure of the penitentiary service, social readaptation, and the provincial police, as well as the acquisition of equipment and technical training for 4,425 police officers has been identified.

Regarding this activity, CABEI's Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, said: "security is a fundamental element for improving people's quality of life. We anticipate that this operation will directly benefit 735,833 inhabitants of the province of Chaco, as well as 2,328 people deprived of their freedom and 1,135 people in conflict with criminal law who are housed in police stations awaiting admission to the Penitentiary Service."

CABEI Director for Argentina and Colombia, Maximiliano Alonso, added: "this initiative, which would be promoted by the Bank, the Argentine Government's Strategic Affairs Secretariat and the Province of Chaco, would include the refurbishment and expansion of 38 police stations, the implementation of video surveillance systems and the implementation of a criminal policy innovation plan to promote differentiated citizen security strategies for crime prevention."
