CABEI's Executive President meets with the President of the Spanish Government to reaffirm commitment to Central America
During the meeting, the essential role of Spain in mobilizing resources for Central America and strengthening CABEI´s governance was highlighted.
Madrid, September 3, 2024. The Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), Gisela Sánchez, met with the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez at the Palacio de La Moncloa.
In this important meeting, Spain's role in its first 20 years as CABEI member was emphasized, and its key role in achieving the Bank's vision for the next 20 years was discussed. "Spain's leadership as a gateway and bridge to other European countries is essential for CABEI," stated the Executive President. She further highlighted that strengthening alliances with Spanish institutions is vital for advancing in areas such as technology, sustainable mobility, climate action, social development, and gender equity, among others.
During the meeting, President Sánchez shared CABEI's new strategy 2025-2029 focused on maximizing impact in the countries, improving efficiency, and strengthening transparency and accountability. Additionally, the new strategy prioritizes regional integration projects and those that significantly improve the quality of life for people in the region.
Since its incorporation as a non-regional partner in 2005, with a 4.19% equity participation, Spain has been a key ally for BCIE, facilitating more than US$700 million in resources to the Central American region. This support will continue to be fundamental in the Bank's expansion and strengthening in the coming years.
Mission to Spain, France, and Belgium
From Monday 2 to September 13, the Executive President, Gisela Sánchez, and the CABEI Representative in Spain and Europe, Mauricio Chacón, are on a mission to Spain, France, and Belgium.
During this visit, they will hold high-level meetings with government entities, financial institutions, educational institutions, and the business sector. Additionally, they will meet with representatives of cooperation agencies with which CABEI maintains close relations.
