CABEI supports the integration and development of the region

The Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration Dr. Dante Mossi participated at the SICA Summit held in Guatemala.

Guatemala City, June 5, 2019.- In his participation at the LIII Meeting of Heads of State and Government of the Central American Integration System (SICA), the Executive President of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) Dr. Dante Mossi shared the Bank's most recent achievements, as well as the regional impact initiatives to be developed in the future in order to build a united and stronger region.

In his speech, he highlighted that the financing provided by CABEI to programs and projects in road infrastructure, health services, water, education, agricultural development and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) sector have benefited approximately 5 million people.

In this regard, he pointed out that CABEI executes 22 regional programs linked to the sectoral priorities identified in the framework of regional development strategies and policies formulated by the SICA bodies.

Transforming the region's economic and social physiognomy
Dr. Mossi stated that, "Among the major objectives to be achieved in the next five years, CABEI has set out truly transformative regional projects in the economic and social aspects of the region." In this context, he cited the projects of the Gulf of Fonseca; the Customs Union between Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador; the construction of a railway; and the regional gas pipeline.

With regard to sustainable development, he explained that, "CABEI will continue to strengthen its commitment to the conservation of the planet, recalling that in the recent Governors Meeting, a resolution of principles was approved to support climate change adaptation and mitigation, specifically declaring that CABEI will refrain from financing projects related to the extraction and generation of energy based on mineral coal."

Finally, the CABEI Executive President said that, "The transformation of the economic and social features of the region is an opportunity for countries to move in the same direction and work to implement strategies in order to achieve greater integration.”
