CABEI supports studies for hydroelectric plant in Honduras
The funds will be provided by the Accelerating Renewable Energy in Central America and Panama Project (ARECA).
Tegucigalpa, July 20, 2015.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved US$80,000.00 in non-reimbursable technical assistance to finance pre-investment studies for the project, “Small Hydroelectric Plant: Río Blanco-Los Puentes,” located between the town of Río Blanco, in the Chamelecón watershed and Los Puentes, in the municipality of Macuelizo, department of Santa Bárbara, Honduras.
The non-reimbursable cooperation is being provided by the Accelerating Renewable Energy in Central America and Panama Project (ARECA), a tripartite initiative involving the Global Environment Fund (GEF), the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) and CABEI as executing body.
The project’s general objective is the generation of clean energy by harnessing water power. In addition, the project will contribute to environmental protection by reducing annual CO2 emissions by approximately 6,566 tons.
This project will make a noteworthy contribution to achieving the CABEI 2015-2019 Institutional Strategy, “Competitiveness with Integration and Social Development.” The initiative will further the Strategy’s objective of achieving sustained economic growth through the implementation of strategic infrastructure initiatives and the mobilization of investment capital for different productive sectors in the Central American region, in addition to fostering sustainable energy generation, transmission and distribution.
