CABEI signs educational credit with Universidad Central de Nicaragua

Young Nicaraguans will benefit from higher education financing at Universidad Central de Nicaragua (UCN).

Managua, October 14, 2016. – Today, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) signed a cooperation agreement through its Educational Credit Program (PBCE) with Universidad Central de Nicaragua (UCN).

The agreement aims to strengthen the competitiveness of Nicaraguan students seeking to continue their higher education studies at UCN, and, at the same time, enable the UCN to expand its academic offering to CABEI member countries located in the Central American region.

The agreement was signed by UCN President and legal representative, Mr. Francisco López Pérez, and CABEI Country Manager for Nicaragua, Mrs. Edda Magaly Melendez.

The initiative is part of PBCE, which is a mechanism created to promote increased educational rates in the Central American countries. The PBCE is financed with CABEI’s own funds and with contributions from the Republic of China (Taiwan) awarded through its International Cooperation Taiwan and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF).

To date, the PBCE has disbursed a total of US$5.2 million, benefiting a total of 458 students (222 women and 236 men). A total of 23 universities are affiliated with the PBCE; these universities are located in El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica.
