CABEI signs agreements to generate clean energy in southern Honduras

Three communities in the southern part of Honduras will now have electricity from a solar panel project, which will generate 13,845 KWp of clean energy and benefit 155 families.

Tegucigalpa, June 1, 2015. - The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), through its Project "Accelerating Renewable Energy Investments in Central America and Panama (ARECA)” signed two non-reimbursable technical assistance agreements to support clean energy projects in the south of Honduras.

The first agreement amounts to US$80,000.00 and seeks to execute the solar energy project denominated "Development of Renewable Energies in the Community of Portillo del Guácimo," in the Municipality of Namasigüe, Department of Choluteca.

The second agreement, also for US$80,000.00, is aimed at supporting the project "Development of Renewable Energies in the Communities of Las Labranzas and Rincon El Ocotillo" in the Municipality of Nacaome, Department of Valle.

With these projects, ARECA will contribute to the generation of approximately 13,845 KWp (kilowatt hours) of clean energy, benefiting 155 families, 1 church and 3 schools in the community of Portillo del Guácimo in the Municipality of Namasigüe and the communities of Las Labranzas and Rincón Ocotillo in the Municipality of Nacaome.

In addition, through the execution of these projects, CABEI is complying with its 2015-2019 Strategy, "Integrating Sustainable Development and Competitiveness," as well as with the MDGs in Honduras, since this initiative is also supporting sustainable rural development and improving the quality of life of 155 families living in these three communities, thus contributing to poverty reduction in the poorest communities of the country.
