The studies to be carried out will determine the viability of an investment project that may be partially financed by CABEI.

Tegucigalpa, November 18, 2019.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) signed a consultancy contract for an amount of € 725,840.00 for the preparation of “Feasibility Studies of an Air Cable Transportation Network for the Municipality of the Central District of the Republic of Honduras,” as part of a Non-Reimbursable Technical Cooperation financed with resources from the French Treasury's FASEP Facility, which is managed CABEI.

CABEI Country Manager for Honduras, Mr. Manuel Torres, stated that, “The Institution is extremely pleased to support the country, and in this case, the Municipal City Hall of the Central District, with studies to make it possible for the population to have a mass public transportation system by air cable, integrating the different transportation modes in the main corridors of the cities of Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela. Likewise, CABEI has a portfolio of sustainable projects that enables it to respond to the growing needs of the population.”

Under the terms of the agreement signed between CABEI and the consortium awarded the consultancy (SETEC-ARDANUY), the studies will enable the formulation of an integral transportation solution to meet the needs of the population of the Central District, including the current transportation modes and featuring the new aerial cable (cable car) system.

The Project will improve the quality of life of the population of the  Central District Municipality, increasing the urban mobilization capacities of the cities of Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela, especially involving transportation from the city's periphery to its center, where most jobs are concentrated.

The initiative is in line with the CABEI 2015-2019 Institutional Strategy's Axis of Competitiveness, specifically with the Focus Areas of Productive Infrastructure and Services for Competitiveness. Likewise, the request complies with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) No. 1, 8, 11 and 13.
