CABEI participates in UN High Level Political Forum

In the framework of the event, CABEI held important meetings with the main development entities that promote the commitment of the countries to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Tegucigalpa, July 19, 2019.- On July 18 and 19, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) participated at the meetings of the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Council at its headquarters in New York.

CABEI participated at the High Level Political Forum, which provides political leadership, guidance and recommendations for sustainable development, and examines progress in fulfilling commitments on sustainable development, especially in compliance with the 2030 Agenda and the Development Cooperation Forum, which examines trends and progress in the area.

In this sense, CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, indicated that as the development arm of the SICA countries, the Bank plays a key role in achieving compliance with the SDGs in the SICA countries through specialized technical assistance, facilitation of actions between the public and private sectors, implementation of strategic alliances with partners for development and mobilization of resources to its member countries.

The event, which was held at the UN headquarters, also highlighted the opportunity for UN member countries and observer bodies to review the progress of financing for the development of the SDGs, as a preamble to high-level meetings and summits that will be held within the framework of the opening of the UN General Assembly in September of this year.

CABEI committed to the SDGs
The Bank reiterated  the key role of cooperation among multilateral development agencies to be part of the solutions for compliance with the SDGs included in the UN 2030 agenda.

CABEI has incorporated the SDGs into the center of its Institutional Strategy, financing programs and projects aimed at achieving goals 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 13, which aim to put an end to poverty and hunger, improve the health and welfare of citizens, achieve quality education, provide potable water and sanitation systems and provide economic and social infrastructure to its member countries.

In line with its mission, through the financing of programs and projects in road infrastructure, health services, water, education, agricultural development and financing to micro, small and medium enterprises, the Bank has managed to directly benefit an approximate total of 5 million people.
