Through the focus area of human development and social infrastructure, CABEI supports such projects as water and sanitation, waste disposal, waste treatment, equipment and infrastructure for social housing.

Heredia, May 29, 2019.- The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) participated with other organizations in the forum denominated, "Urban Growth Planning and its Impacts," which was conducted by Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica (UNA).

At the forum, CABEI Country Manager for Costa Rica, Mauricio Chacón, presented the Bank's contribution to the development of projects and initiatives that mitigate the effects of urban growth and its impact on the region's environment.

Another relevant point addressed was the development of cities in an urban planning framework that ensures an adequate use of resources and promotes streamlined  interaction between the different participants in the environment.

He also explained such factors as accessible housing conditions for the middle class, employment opportunities, agile and safe public transportation, satisfaction of needs and basic infrastructure for the entire population, which must be intertwined to ensure economic, social and sustainable development.

CABEI is committed to promoting decent housing in the countries of the region; an example of its efforts is the Housing and Sustainable Habitat Development Program, which has benefitted 40,573 people.

It is noteworthy that this activity is of transcendental academic and national importance, since the result of this and other meetings that have been organized will produce a special publication that will be delivered to Costa Rica by UNA within the framework of the country's commemoration of 200 years of independence.
