CABEI makes progress in the design and implementation of its Open Data Strategy

06/02/2025

Tegucigalpa, february 6, 2025 - The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) is making progress in the design and execution of its Open Data Strategy, as part of the implementation of its new Access to Information Policy (AIP), which will come into effect in June 2025 and incorporates this commitment to strengthen transparency. To this end, CABEI has begun preparatory work with the Open Knowledge Foundation (OKFN), an organization recognized for its extensive experience in the promotion and management of open data at a global level. As part of this strategy, the Bank will use CKAN, an open source software platform used globally for the management of open data, which allows it to be made available to the public in an accessible and transparent way. With this strategy, the Bank seeks to align itself with global standards in the field, reaffirming its commitment to accountability and openness.

These efforts complement the actions carried out in 2024, including two expert round tables in which specialized organizations provided key inputs to strengthen this initiative. The first took place within the framework of the First International Congress on Open State and Governance, held in May 2024 in Costa Rica with the participation of institutions from the International Open Government Academic Network (RAGA). The second took place during the XXVII Meeting of the Network for Transparency and Access to Information (RTA), an event organized by CABEI in November 2024 that marked a historic milestone as it was the first time that a multilateral institution served as host.

To ensure that the future strategy effectively reflects the expectations and needs of the public, the Bank will soon be opening a public consultation. This process will be essential to gather input to guide its design and ensure that the data disclosed on this platform is accessible, transparent and truly useful for citizens.
