The project aims to improve the Las Pavas potable water treatment plant in the San Salvador metropolitan area, benefiting 1.6 million people.

San Salvador.-Because Central American human development and social infrastructure are vital areas for development, the Board of Directors of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved US$650 thousand in pre-investment cooperation for improving the collection, water treatment and electromechanical works of Las Pavas water treatment plant.

The project will allow the Salvadoran National Administration of Aqueducts and Sewer Systems (ANDA1) to hire consulting firms to prepare the feasibility studies, technical studies, plans, final designs and tender documents needed to apply for CABEI financing for the works to improve the potable water supply system.

With this operation, CABEI will directly benefit 1.6 million inhabitants of the San Salvador Metropolitan Area and surrounding areas.

Providing this pre-investment cooperation will eventually allow CABEI to finance the investment for the rehabilitation of the collection, treatment and electromechanical works in order to increase the energy and hydraulic efficiency of Las Pavas water treatment plant; pumping stations EB1, EB2 and EB3; and the terminal tanks, for an amount of approximately US$19 million.

This initiative is in line with CABEI's 2010-2014 Institutional Strategy, in particular with the social development strategic axis, specifically with the human development and social infrastructure focus area and with the strategic objective of strengthening the coverage of the countries’ basic needs and services.

In this way, CABEI is working to improve the quality of life of Central Americans.
