The institutions will collaborate with each other to strengthen mechanisms and promote standards on access to information, citizen participation, and access to justice on environmental issues.

San José, March 8, 2022.- During the seminar "Socio-environmental Policy Frameworks for a safe investment environment: the opportunities of the Escazú Agreement", the Central American Bank for Economic Integration and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) subscribed a memorandum of collaboration to disseminate good practices and standards in this area, identify research activities of mutual interest, promote initiatives on issues related to sustainable development, and the implementation of the Escazú Agreement, among other inter-institutional actions.

CABEI Executive President, Dante Mossi, emphasized that "this close relationship with ECLAC will allow us to work together on strategic issues, such as access to information and the promotion of development in Latin America". He also noted that "guaranteeing transparency from multilateral organizations strengthens democratic principles and the citizens' commitment to development in every action we undertake."

CABEI Director for Costa Rica, Eduardo Trejos Lalli, stated that "the Escazú Agreement provides a fundamental basis for environmental democracy, international cooperation and multilateralism as central axes for promoting open and sustainable development in the region". He added that "by promoting greater openness and better engagement with civil society on environmental matters, we will be able to improve the results and impact of CABEI's operations".

Maximiliano Alonso, CABEI's Titular Director for Argentina and Colombia and President of the Access to Information Committee, stated: "The Subscription of this memorandum is part of the Bank's renewed commitment to transparency, openness and accountability, driven by the Access to Information Policy that came into effect on April 1, 2021."
