CABEI and the Republic of Honduras subscribe financing agreement for the construction of El Tablón Multipurpose Dam, Stage I

Tegucigalpa, December 17, 2024.- This Tuesday, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Government of the Republic of Honduras formalized the US$300 million financing agreement for the execution of the El Tablón Multipurpose Loan Construction Project, Stage I, which will benefit more than two million people in the Sula Valley and surrounding communities.

The signing of the agreement, held in San Pedro Sula, was attended by the President of the Republic, Xiomara Castro, CABEI authorities, representatives of the executing entities, as well as the President and representatives of the Cortés Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The initiative is expected to mitigate the effects of flooding, ensure the area's sustainability and promote the economic development of agricultural and industrial areas, while protecting both communities and key infrastructure.

The feasibility studies, which include the basic design and bidding base documents, are expected to be delivered by January 2025, and the international public bidding process for the contracting of the works and supervision of this important project will be launched in February. In addition, the initiative is aligned with CABEI's Institutional Strategy 2025-2029 and with the Honduras Country Strategy 2022-2026.
