• With resources from CABEI's Social Support Foundation (FAS), at least 125 scholarships will be granted over a five-year period to low-income students who wish to obtain a vocational technical baccalaureate degree.

San Salvador, April 21, 2023 - The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), through its Social Support Foundation (FAS), signed a non-reimbursable financial cooperation agreement with the Republic of El Salvador to carry out the Bicentennial Scholarship Program, which aims to enhance social welfare and promote access to education for students beginning from the eighth grade of Basic Education up until the completion of their Vocational Technical Baccalaureate studies.

The agreement was signed by CABEI's President, Dr. Dante Mossi, and the Minister of Finance, Mr. José Alejandro Zelaya, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of El Salvador.

"Through this scholarship program, we promote education and encourage our students from vulnerable communities with excellent academic performance to complete their studies, giving them the opportunity to excel in different educational and work environments," said CABEI´s President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

The objective of this program is to promote the education of students with excellent academic performance who are not able to pursue vocational technical studies due to financial constraints. The program will support 25 students each year, for a period of 5 years, benefitting a total of 125 students. The selected students will receive financial assistance to cover their transportation, meals, internet connectivity, educational materials such as photocopies, books, printing materials, as well specialized materials relevant to their chosen technical program.

In 2020, CABEI established FAS to drive high-impact social projects across its member countries, in line with its commitment to reducing poverty and enhancing the quality of life for citizens in the region. This initiative aligns with CABEI's 2020-2024 Institutional Strategy, particularly the Strategic Axis of Human Development and Inclusion.
