Tegucigalpa, March 8th, 2022.- In order to learn about the management of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) in Honduras and joint support opportunities for the region's development, CABEI executives met with Antón Leis, Director of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID).

CABEI's Financial Manager, Danery Alvarado, presented the Bank's experiences in the region, its competitive advantages and the financial conditions it offers its member countries to promote important initiatives.

"Allies such as AECID are of great importance to CABEI because together we can identify cooperation opportunities that translate into an improvement in the quality of life of Central Americans," said CABEI Executive President Dante Mossi.

CABEI and AECID have signed specific agreements to promote investment in micro, small and medium-size enterprises in Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica. The total amount of the three loan agreements signed is US$37.9 million.

In July 2021, the Fund for the Promotion of Development (FONPRODE) finalized the allocation of the remaining US$1.9 million in non-reimbursable resources from the CABEI-Spain Microcredit Program to finance the Climate Change Innovation Project Preparation Fund (FCC), component No. 2 of CABEI's "Resilient Central American Reconstruction Program".

The meeting was attended by the Spanish Ambassador to Honduras, Guillermo Kirkpatrick; the Head of the Department of Cooperation with Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean AECID, Sonia Álvarez Cibanal; the Spanish Cooperation Coordinator, Juan José Sanzberro; the Head of Local Development Programs, Francisco Tomás; and for CABEI, the Director for Spain, Jorge Mariné Brandi, the Assistant for Spain, Monica Bande and the Chief Country Officer for Honduras, Andrea Kafati.
