CABEI promotes greater environmental awareness with the presentation of the documentary "The Shelmeca Serpent"

Tegucigalpa, September 07, 2022 - Making a call for reflection, to live in harmony and in a sustainable manner with the environment; and to develop biodiversity friendly activities, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), presented this Tuesday the documentary "La Serpiente de Shelmeca" - Honduras a Jewel of Mesoamerican Biodiversity".

The documentary directed by the creator Laura Bermudez tells the story of the Río Platano Biosphere, due to its international importance as the second lung of Latin America and recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as a world heritage of humanity.

"From our institution, we want to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our natural resources, which are threatened every day by climate change, extensive cattle ranching and illegal logging," said CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

The activity, in addition to raising awareness among the population, contributes to the care and preservation of the environment and strengthens efforts to protect Mesoamerican biodiversity.

After the premiere of the documentary, a discussion was held on the present and future challenges to the conservation and protection of our biodiversity, with the participation of prominent panelists:  Wildres Wood, First Misquito Biologist; Eduardo Gonzalez, CABEI Climate Change and Environment Specialist and moderated by Jimmy Walter Andino Mejía, Biologist specialized in biodiversity.
