CABEI participates in the IX Summit of the Americas "Building a sustainable, resilient and equitable future"

President Mossi ratifies CABEI's commitment to promote financial and investment solutions to reactivate the region's economy.

Los Angeles, United States, June 09, 2022.- A delegation from the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), led by its Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, participated in the IX Summit of the Americas 2022 "Building a Sustainable, Resilient and Equitable Future", where he met with the leaders of the countries of the Americas to discuss regional cooperation as a means to achieve development.

"CABEI's participation in the Summit ratifies the commitment to continue promoting the hemispheric agenda, especially in the strategic areas that CABEI has prioritized and has decided to address in order to cover the support and financing needs of the Central American region, particularly in the areas of the fight against climate change and electric mobility," said Dr. Mossi.

CABEI has been contributing to the region's economy by promoting sustainable development, strengthening climate change adaptation measures and resilient initiatives.

During his speech, the Executive President highlighted the importance of investing in the transformation and diversification of renewable energy sources such as hydro, wind and geothermal energy, as well as the promotion and use of electromobility in both the public and private sectors.

In its commitment to lead the fight against climate change, CABEI has channeled US$6.9 billion in climate change operations in the last seven years, representing 40% of the Bank's total approvals.

In addition, the Bank is actively working to design innovative financial instruments such as thematic bonds, issuing a green bond for US$375.0 million. In 2021 a social bond was issued for US$500.0 million to combat social disparity.

In its strategic advances, the multilateral has been contributing to increase the technological and productive capacity of the countries to make the transition to electromobility. The Bank is currently promoting different projects in Central America, Panama and the Dominican Republic that include urban mobility and logistics in the private and public sectors, as well as initiatives to promote clean and efficient energy generation, cleaner production and the introduction of electric fleets in the business sector.

"As the region's Green Bank, we remain committed to sustaining adequate financing mechanisms that allow us to continue creating jobs to counteract the impact of the current economic downturn," said CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

In a context where priorities and concerns of institutions, individuals and governments have been shared about the difficulties of recovery left by the COVID-19 pandemic and the threats to equitable opportunities in terms of economic, social and political aspects, this is why the Government of the United States, as host, established as the central theme of the Ninth Summit "Building a Sustainable, Resilient and Equitable Future", under which five thematic axes are contemplated: Health and Resilience in the Americas, Our Green Future, Accelerating the Clean Energy Transition, Digital Transformation, and Democratic Governance.
