CABEI grants technical cooperation to El Salvador to support its incorporation into Regional Customs Union process
• The resources will facilitate trade and free transit of people between El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala.
San Salvador, June 1, 2021– In order for the Republic of El Salvador to join the "Deep Integration Process towards the Free Transit of People and Goods" already initiated by the Republics of Guatemala and Honduras, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) granted a non-reimbursable cooperation of US$750,000.
This funding will be used to improve the telecommunications network and implement a new wireless network system; improve the physical infrastructure of the customs facilities; and implement a new wireless link system for point-to-point connectivity (PTP).
"The implementation of this cooperation will provide speed, security, transparency and better service to the supply chain. At CABEI, we are pleased to be part of regional integration initiatives such as these that will have a positive impact on the competitiveness, economic development and commercial dynamism of our region", said CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi.
The funds will be managed by the General Directorate of Customs within 12 months, which will implement the necessary actions to achieve the creation of a single customs territory between Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras.
This non-reimbursable cooperation is part of CABEI's 2020-2024 Institutional Strategy, specifically the Regional Integration strategic axis, which supports regional initiatives in specific sectors for financing and promoting the region as an integrated market.
