With a donation of US$500,000, the authorities will be able to attend to the basic needs of the families that suffered damages due to the natural phenomenon that hit Nicaraguan soil in recent days.

Tegucigalpa, October 19th, 2022.- In support of and in solidarity with the Nicaraguan families affected by the damage caused by Hurricane Julia, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) approved emergency non-reimbursable financial cooperation in the amount of US$500,000 for the Republic of Nicaragua.

"We are extending our helping hand to the families of the countries in the region that were seriously affected by the heavy and constant rains. And as CABEI, we are joining the actions and efforts of the authorities to mitigate the damage," said CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

The cooperation will be implemented by the National System for Disaster Prevention, Mitigation and Response (SINAPRED), to address the negative effects caused by Julia, a natural phenomenon that caused losses and damage to the population and their livelihoods.

The Bank is providing similar humanitarian aid to Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, founding member countries that were also affected by this climate phenomenon. CABEI will continue to promote programs and projects to help the countries of the region implement measures to prevent and adapt to climate change in order to reduce vulnerability to natural phenomena.
