CABEI grants emergency aid to Cuba to address the effects of the fire at the Supertanker Base in Matanzas
Mérida, September 20, 2022.- The Board of Directors of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) granted emergency aid in the amount of up to €200 thousand euros to the Republic of Cuba to address the damages caused by the fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base.
CABEI's Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi, emphasized that the financial assistance is a sign of CABEI's solidarity with this country, an extra-regional member of the Bank, with the purpose of supporting efforts to recover from the damage caused by the fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base.
The funds will be used to purchase fire safety and personal fire protection modules, which will enable the country to replace the numerous pieces of equipment lost after the tragic incident and reduce vulnerability to potential fire events, thus contributing to disaster relief and response capabilities.
Emergency assistance will be executed by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), which will be responsible for cooperation activities and will execute them in accordance with its rules, regulations and procedures.
Emergency assistance is also granted under the specialized mechanism established by CABEI for activities and operations with the Republic of Cuba.
