The third webinar on "Access to Information as a tool to promote transparency and fight corruption" organized by CABEI included the participation of Transparency International.

Tegucigalpa, May 20, 2021.- With the participation of the President of Transparency International, Delia Ferreira, the webinar "Access to Information as a tool to promote transparency and fight corruption" was held this Thursday, organized by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).

"CABEI's objective of promoting the region's economic and social development is closely linked to trust in our institutional framework and access to information, guaranteeing the transparency of our operations, especially in times of crisis when rapid, accurate and sustainable responses are expected," explained CABEI Executive Vice President Jaime Díaz.

In this matter, as of April 26, 2019, CABEI approved the "Declaration on Access to Information", reflecting the Bank's intention to become the pioneer in the region and thus aligning itself with other multilaterals.

As a result of this declaration, on February 25, 2020, CABEI's Board of Directors approved the Access to Information Policy and since its adoption, the general public has been able to make requests for documentation related to all stages of the operations process, from inception to closing, among other details.

The president of Transparency International, an institution widely recognized worldwide in the field and present in more than 100 countries to put an end to corruption, called attention to the need to promote civil society participation, create spaces to listen to the population’s demands and thus enhance transparency, integrity and care for the public.

For his part, CABEI Director for Argentina and Colombia, Maximiliano Alonso, commented that the Bank hopes to continue working with Transparency International, adding that "this conference has given us a clear vision of the opportunities we have, especially with the application of our Policy, which seeks to strengthen governance and accountability as necessary aspects for development.

This is the third webinar promoted by CABEI regarding access to information as a tool to promote transparency and fight corruption, in line with its vision of promoting greater openness for the region's development.
