The construction of the new campus will generate jobs and boost the area's economy, driving local growth and prosperity.
Panama City, June 28, 2024.– In order to promote cutting-edge scientific research, train highly qualified healthcare professionals, and improve the quality of medical care for more than 4.2 million people, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) made a disbursement of US$5.8 million as part of the Design, Construction, and partial Equipment Project of the new Gorgas Memorial Institute for Health Studies (ICGES).
The new ICGES campus will have modern, state-of-the-art facilities, allowing for cutting-edge research, more accurate diagnostics, and more effective treatments. With seven buildings, including three dedicated to laboratories that meet the best international biosafety standards, the campus will be located in the region known as "Chivo - Chivo", in the town of Ancon, near the Panama Canal.
The Institute will position itself as a center of excellence in research, education, and medical care, with the aim of significantly improving the quality of life of Panamanians and consolidating Panama as a regional leader in health and science.
With this action, CABEI reaffirms its commitment to the development of healthcare infrastructure and the region's wellbeing and pledges to continue working to promote human development and social inclusion in Central America, promoting projects that generate a positive and lasting impact on the lives of millions of people.
