San José, July 28th, 2022. - The National Technical Standards of quality related to management systems and energy efficiency of domestic and commercial refrigerators that are currently accredited by the Technical Standards Institute of Costa Rica (INTECO) in public and private organizations in the country, were updated with the support of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, UN Environment, and Global Environment Facility (GEF), in coordination with the Costa Rican Ministry of Environment and Energy.

This, through the execution of the "9283 GEF Development of an Energy Efficiency Market for Lighting, Air Conditioners and Refrigerators Project in Costa Rica", which aims to achieve more efficient values in accordance with new international technologies in government institutions.

"The promotion of energy efficiency is of great importance for CABEI because, with the support of high-level allies such as UN Environment and GEF, it promotes the updating of standardization regulations that seek to reduce energy consumption in both public and private institutions to help mitigate the effects of climate change. In addition, Costa Rica will serve as a model so that in the near future this type of actions can be replicated in the Central American region," said CABEI's Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

The new standards were stated in the brochure "Standardization of Energy Management Systems (SGEn)", which was recently presented in a training session with more than 130 representatives of various public and private institutions such as the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE), National Insurance Institute (INS), University of Costa Rica (UCR), National Power and Light Company (CNFL), Ministry of Science, Innovation, Technology and Telecommunications (MICITT), CABEI Intermediary Financial Institutions, among others.
