Dominican Republic, CABEI's Ambassador in the Caribbean.

The country became a Non-Founding Regional Member of CABEI in 2007 and since then the institution has consolidated its presence in the country by financing programs and projects that contribute to the sustainability of economic growth and the strengthening of aspects of social inclusion with environmental sustainability. . CABEI has benefited more than 6 million people in the Dominican Republic through the programs and projects that the Bank has implemented in the country, through financing amounting to a total amount of US$ 1.1638 billion for the public and private sectors.

Summary of operations

Road Infrastructure: Financing for 148 kilometers of highways.

Energy: Financing for the generation of 80 megawatts of clean renewable energy.

Agro Sector: US$ 60 million for the strengthening of the agricultural sector with a sustainable technological approach.

A 228% increase in the amount estimated in the 2021-2026 country strategy, reaching US$ 1.8 billion. In the previous five-year period the disbursement amounted US$ 533.9 million.

PROJECTS

 

Coral Highway Project

It consisted of the construction of a 70-kilometer-long, 4-lane highway, for which financing of US$70.0 million was allocated.

 

Improvement and Expansion of the Eastern Road Corridor for road sections

San Pedro de Macorís-La Romana Section, La Romana Beltway Section and Eastern Tourist Boulevard Section, totaling 78 kilometers in length and representing the best road infrastructure in the country.

 

Palomino Hydroelectric Project

With a clean and renewable energy generation capacity of 80 megawatts, it is located in the Province of San Juan. For its execution, the Bank allocated financing for a total amount of US$ 130.0 million

 

Construction of a 50-kilometer gas pipeline in San Pedro de Macorís

Loan in favor of AES Dominicana for a total amount of US$54.00 million.

 

Montegrande Multipurpose Dam Project Phase III

With current financing of US$249.6 million

CABEI delivers donation to support families affected by Hurricane Fiona in the Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo, November 10th, 2022.- To counteract the negative effects generated by Hurricane Fiona and as a show of solidarity with the people affected in the Dominican Republic, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) donated materials and supplies to support the repair of infrastructure damaged in the municipalities and districts of La Altagracia and El Seibo, San Rafael del Yuma, the district of Verón, Villa Hermosa, Miches, Sabana de la Mar and Guaymate.

 

This US$1.0 million donation was approved by CABEI in support of the emergency situation the country suffered in September. The purchased materials will be transferred by the Government of the Dominican Republic to the affected families through the Dominican Federation of Municipalities (FEDOMU).

 

"We join the efforts being made by the Dominican government to mitigate the effects caused to the population and their homes by this type of natural phenomena. CABEI will continue to promote programs and projects that enable the countries of the region to reduce their level of climate vulnerability for the well-being of the people," said CABEI Executive President, Dr. Dante Mossi.

 

CABEI reiterates its commitment to its regional member countries with this type of actions in response to emergency situations resulting from natural disasters.

 

Santo Domingo,  10 de noviembre de 2022.- Para contrarrestar los efectos negativos generados por el huracán Fiona y como muestra de solidaridad con las personas afectadas en República Dominicana, el Banco Centroamericano de Integración Económica (BCIE) entregó en calidad de donación materiales e insumos para apoyar la reparación de la infraestructura que sufrió daños en los municipios y distritos de La Altagracia y El Seibo, San Rafael del Yuma, distrito de Verón, Villa Hermosa, Miches, Sabana de la Mar y Guaymate.

Esta donación por US$1.0 millón fue aprobada por el BCIE en respaldo a la situación de emergencia que sufrió el país en el mes de septiembre. Los materiales adquiridos serán traslados por el Gobierno de República Dominicana a las familias afectadas a través de La Federación Dominicana de Municipios (FEDOMU).

“Nos sumamos a los esfuerzos que está realizando el gobierno dominicano para mitigar las afectaciones provocadas a la población y a sus viviendas por este tipo de fenómenos naturales. Desde el BCIE seguiremos impulsando programas y proyectos que permitan a los países de la región reducir su nivel de vulnerabilidad climática en pro del bienestar de las personas” destacó el presidente ejecutivo del BCIE, Dr. Dante Mossi.

El BCIE reitera su compromiso con sus países socios regionales con este tipo de acciones en respuestas a situaciones de emergencia producto de desastres naturales.
