Colombia joined CABEI as an extra-regional member in 1997. It holds 3.07% of the Bank's shareholding and at the close of 2020, it had an authorized capital of USD203.00 million with capital payments of USD36.25 million. During 2020, CABEI support to the country was aimed at addressing the COVID-19 pandemic and the effects of hurricanes Eta and Iota.

By means of international alliances for financial cooperation, CABEI promotes opportunities involving high technology and innovation projects in the region.

San José, March 21, 2019.- With a proposal to continue working on initiatives aimed at strengthening technological progress and innovation in the region, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) participated in the "2nd Workshop on Digital Cooperation between the European Union and Latin America & the Caribbean."

During his speech, CABEI Country Manager for Costa Rica, Mr. Mauricio Chacón, stated that, "CABEI and international allies support the identification of proposals and recommendations for cooperation in promoting regulatory harmonization and Central American policy on issues regarding the digital economy."

At the event, which was organized by the European Union, an analysis was made of the international organizations' mutual interest to encourage investment in the audiovisual industry and digital economy in Latin America and the Caribbean, incorporating consumer protection schemes and transparent access and use of information in the media and civil literacy platforms.
