Limitations to productivity affect the sustainable development of Central America. As part of competitiveness, the productivity that the region needs requires both physical and institutional infrastructure, human capital and adequate investment levels. Competitiveness is a priority theme for the Central American agenda, especially for the purpose of taking advantage of trade openness and integration and fostering the region’s development.

Through this axis, CABEI seeks to continue promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth, as well as establishing links with aspects of the axis of social development. The guidelines of the axis include:

  • Promoting strategic infrastructure initiatives in support of the countries’ economic activity.
  • Promoting mobilization of capital for investment in productive sectors.
  • Supporting the modernization and institutional strengthening processes of founding member countries and contributing to the development of productivity through science technology and innovation in order to promote employment.
