Inauguration of the Project “Expansion and Pavement of the Atiquizaya - San Lorenzo Highway”, in the Department of Ahuachapán, Republic of El Salvador.

This Project will contribute to the economic development of the population from the Municipality of Atiquizaya and San Lorenzo, Department of Ahuachapan, Republic of El Salvador, through the direct benefit of 15,574 of its inhabitants,

This project was made possible thanks to the Central American Border Zone Development Program (executed by the European Union (EU) and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), and the Mayorship of Atiquizaya.

The European Union, represented by Mr. Wouter Wilton and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, represented by Mr. Ricardo Francisco Mora, will inaugurate the Project “Expansion and Pavement of the Atiquizaya - San Lorenzo Highway”, Department of Ahuachapán, Republic of El Salvador, on November 19, 2008.

The Project has a total investment of US$701,708.00 and was completed thanks to the economic support of the EU and CABEI with the contribution of US$288,663.00, and the Municipality of Atiquizaya with US$413,045.00.

The execution of the project came as a request submitted by the Mayorship of Atiquizaya, in view of the need for road infrastructure that would improve the commercial activities and communication between both municipalities.

The pavement and expansion of the highway was completed over a distance of 3.7 kilometers, thus contributing to the exchange of commercial products between Atiquizaya, San Lorenzo and the neighboring communities that border with Guatemala. In addition, the highway will bring about savings for the benefiting population, improvement in the hygienic conditions of the people that live near to the highway and a reduction in accidents that occur along the highway.
